STUDIO

Formerly known as Anthony Purdy Garden Design, AP Design Studios specialises in exceptional domestic garden and landscape design in the Cambs, Essex, Herts areas and beyond. We work closely with you, transforming your concepts into beautiful, inspiring outdoor spaces that seamlessly blend contemporary and traditional elements, fostering a deeper connection between people and nature.

Through the entire process our team are dedicated to design, advise and monitor the build of your dream garden. We ensure that each detail, from practical design elements to sustainable practices, is carefully considered.

We are proud to support the SGDs ‘Say no to plastic grass & plants’ campaign.

We’re a close-knit design family who truly love what we do. Our studio is located in a converted gasworks building just outside Cambridge. We’d love you to pop in and say hello!

Anthony: Creative Director

After achieving a degree in Garden and Landscape design, Anthony spent 7 years working for a well renowned design and build practice. In 2016 Anthony then set up the design studio and has since seen the completion of over 100 projects, varying from urban city courtyard to historic properties set in sprawling rural gardens.

‘The perfect garden for me must be elegantly laid out and incredibly well thought through. Everything must have its place. As garden designers we are seen as custodians of the earth, I aim to work with this concept using design principles to blur the lines between a garden and the landscape beyond. I have a keen attention to detail and am only truly content when something is absolutely right.’

Outside of work, Anthony has a strong connection to nature and enjoys spending time outdoors. Whether it’s pottering around in his own garden or off exploring another country with his wife and 2 children. Anthony has an affinity to water and is frequently drawn to it, something that tends to be reflected in many of his projects.

Joanna: Studio Manager

Jo started working for the business in 2022 following the birth of her and Anthony’s first child and when the company experienced a growth spurt of its own. With a strong background in accounting, she manages all financial and operational aspects of the studio, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Being a creative person at heart, she loves throwing unconventional design ideas around the office and being involved with planting plans.

”I have a deep-rooted love of gardening which has been passed down through my matriline. I still remember the fragrant scent of geraniums from the cuttings my great-grandmother was endlessly growing on in her greenhouse”

When she’s not at the studio, Jo enjoys spending time outdoors with her two children, baking up a storm, or planning her next travel adventure, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories.

This heritage inspires Jo’s work today, as she’s constantly expanding her plant knowledge. She’s also passionate about sustainability and is always exploring ways to integrate eco-friendly practices into the gardens the studio creates.

Holly: Garden Designer

Holly studied at the Oxford College of Garden Design after a number of years working as a gardener and landscaper for a local company and later on for herself. Whilst having her hands in the soil is still an intrinsic part of her life, moving into design has allowed her creativity and interest in functional design to flourish.

She fell in love with working with and in nature whilst living in the antipodes, which continued on her return to Oxfordshire.

Alongside her design work Holly can be found in the poly tunnel growing food, raising her child or exploring the UK in their camper van.
